The main caretakers of artistic property and the rich cultural heritage of Kazakhstan are museums. The work of the A. Kasteyev State Museum of Art is aimed at implementing its main mission of preserving and popularizing the unique artistic heritage of the Republic of Kazakhstan. For a successful fulfillment of its mission, the A. Kasteyev State Museum of Art realizes its work through the following processes: collecting art, storage, research work, restoration, and propagation of world art works to a wide audience in Kazakhstan and abroad. The structure of the museum includes a center of conservation and restoration, a scientific department, the center for guided tours, the press department, the center of exhibitions and expositions, the publishing department, the department of technological services, and an administrative center. The museum has two branches: The central exhibition hall and the A. Kasteyev house-museum. The effectiveness of the museum’s work is founded on the systematic and well-coordinated work of all structural divisions providing coverage of the main types of museum activity: stock, exposition, scientific, informational, educational, design, etc.

The Museum’s Major Achievements in 2019 include a number of significant projects, many through international cooperation. One of the priorities of the state program "Rukhani Zhangyru" is the integration of Kazakhstan culture in the global process. In 2019, the A. Kasteyev State Museum of Art, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, carried out a number of significant visiting exhibitions, which presented the best works from museum collections to foreign viewers. In 2019, declared by the state as the Year of Youth in Kazakhstan, the museum developed and launched the Asem Alem Zhastar educational program for children and adolescents. This is the first museum project in Kazakhstan, focused on a new format for teaching children and teenagers the course on the history of world art culture “Asem-Alem-Zhastar”. At the moment, the course includes 10 lessons, and it is expected that the program will expand.

One of the key areas of the museum's activity is exhibition and exposition work. In 2019, the museum held a total of 65 exhibitions, and collaborated with the Russian Federation, Japan, Italy, the USA, Kyrgyzstan, Germany, China, Korea and Uzbekistan in international projects. The informational promotion of the museum and its events includes wide coverage of all museum events, ensuring regular media outlets (over 2,000 per year), constant updating and replenishment of the museum site and work in social networks.

Furthermore, the museum is continuing to implement the large-scale socially significant project “Accessible Museum”, aimed at ensuring comfortable conditions for visiting the museum by all groups of the population, including spectators with special needs.

As such, the museum continues to promote the implementation of creative projects for the disabled. The museum strives to strengthen its role in the realm of tourism, given the prospect of further tourism development. The museum seeks to attract the interest of visitors through the development of innovative forms of work.
