The exhibit presents 40 paintings by anonymous artists, many of which are making their debut or being shown for the first time in many years.

aitbayev 1On February 9th, 2018 a retrospective on the prominent Kazakh artist Salikhitdin Aitbaev will open at the A. Kasteev State Museum of Arts. Aitbaev is an Honored Artist of the Kazakh SSR and a Laureate of the Balikhanov Prize. The exhibit includes paintings and drawings from throughout the artist’s career from the Kasteev Museum as well as private collections.

The 1960s and 1970s were one of the most conflictual periods for art in Kazakhstan. The social climate of the country influenced the creative atmosphere: habits and norms were suddenly broken down and a need for new priorities arose. Salikhitdin Aitbaev was the leader of a new generation of artists in Kazakhstan. For these artists themes of moral growth, individual potential and the search for national identity became focuses for an outpouring of creative energy.
