new york 1On June 18, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm At the Crossroads of Asia and Europe; 20th Century Masterpieces from the Kasteyev Museum of Arts in Kazakhstan opens at the Grand Gallery of the National Arts Club in New York. The exhibit follows the development of Kazakhstan’s fine arts tradition through the 20th Century, including paintings by the founders of Kazakhstan’s modern visual arts movement. The exhibit closes on July 15, 2018.

Kazakh crafts and decorative arts have a hundreds-of-year-long history, stretching back to the era of the Great Silk Road and beyond. Rugs, weaving, woodcarving, leather working and metal working are part of a bright tradition of national colors, patterns and symbols which grace utili-tarian objects of striking beauty. Painting and sculpture on the other hand came to prominence much later.

Kasteyev Museum of Arts, U.S. Embassy in Astana and the U.S. Consulate General in Almaty invite you to a Musical Vernissage entitled “Kazakh Country: From the Lone Prairie to the Great Steppe”. American diplomat and musician Wren Elhai and special guests Layla Tazhibaeva-Issayeva, Candice Miracle, and Michael Allen will present a program of traditional and contemporary folk music from Kazakhstan and the United States (along with a few surprises). This program coincides with an exhibition of the work of contemporary American artist Hunt Slonem and with the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great Kazakh composer Kyrmangazy.

hunt slonem 1From June 2 to July 31, 2018, an axhibit Exotic World of Hunt Slonem will run at the A. Kasteyev Museum of Arts.

Hunt Slonem (born Hunt Slonim, July 18, 1951) is an American painter, sculptor, and printmaker. He is best known for his Neo-Expressionist paintings of tropical birds, often based on a personal aviary in which he has been keeping from 30 to over 100 live birds of various species. Slonem's works are included in many important museum collections all over the world; he is exhibiting regularly at both public and private venues, and he has received numerous honors and awards.

zhaniya 1On May 3rd, 2018 at 7:00 pm the A. Kasteyev State Museum of Arts invites you to Musical Palette a musical vernissage and collaborative project with the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory. Star of Kazakh classical music, People’s Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, rector and professor at the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory Zhania Aubakirova (pianoforte) will perform compositions by Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Poulenc and other great composers. Damir Burkitbaev (clarinet), winner of multiple international competitions and graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, will also perform.
